A Fragile Time of Peace

I would like to change the part where Zeus lifted the ban on the Gods to intervene. I think it would be more exciting to read what would have happened had the Gods not meddled in the affairs of the mortals. It would’ve been fairer for both parties that way because the Gods only helped the camp they favored. In short, they were biased about the whole thing. If they had not joined the battle then we would have known who would really win and who would lose, we’d know who would’ve really won between Achilles and Hector.

Zeus forbade the Gods to intervene. Due to Achilles’ intense rage, he meets the Trojans on the River Skamandros. He does so much damage that only a handful of Soldiers were able to go back to Troy. On their way they set up an ambush for Achilles. The plan backfires and after that, the only one left standing were both Achilles and Hector. They decided among themselves that whoever would lose would be killed and that whoever would lose will obey the other camp’s demands as far as the war was concerned. They arranged that enough blood has been spilt, enough lives have been taken and enough tears have been shed over the course of the war. After that they engaged in fighting one another. The two were equal in skill. Both were driven by a variety of emotions. Achilles was motivated by his grief while Hector was motivated by the urge to keep their lands and families from being taken over by the Achaeans. The fight lasted for hours. Both men were at their limits, both were battered and injured and both were still aroused by their will to fight. They clash once again until the point when Achilles’ heel was injured. He got distracted and therefore lost the battle. Although he lost, Hector did not kill him. Instead, he paraded him through Troy as a sign of victory and asked that the Achaeans fall back. Honoring his word Achilles gave the order. This marked a fragile time of peace for both sides.
